1980년대 들어서 Techno Pop과 Synth Pop의 물결이 일며 유리드믹스, 디페쉬 모드와 같은 신흥 밴드들이 속속 등장했다.

 그 와중에 독특한 쇼맨십을 보유한 테크노 스타가 세계를 강타했다.
독일에서 활동하던 네덜란드 국적의 뮤지션 Taco였다.

그는 1930년대 ‘화이트 크리스마스’를 작곡한 Irving Berlin의 브로드웨이 히트곡 ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’를 테크노로 되살려

유럽과 미국에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌며 백만 장이 넘는 싱글 음반을 판매하였다.
무대에서 독특한 목소리와 여유만만한 몸동작과 탭댄스를 연출하는 독보적인 비디오 스타가 등장한 것이다. 

타코는 자카르타 태생의 인도네시아인으로 어릴 적부터 가족을 따라 네덜란드, 미국, 싱가포르, 룩셈부르크, 벨기에, 

독일 등 세계를 돌아다니며 살았다. 
벨기에 국제학교에서 인테리어를 전공했고, 독일 함부르크에서 연기학교를 다니며 뮤지컬 제작에 남다른 재능을 보였다.

독일의 대형 음반사 Polydor가 그를 발굴하여 두 장의 음반을 냈는데, 첫 싱글 "Puttin’ on the Ritz"(1982)부터
대박을 터트린 것이다.
1982년 발표한 데뷔앨범 [After Eight]에 수록된 곡으로, 그의 최고 히트곡 'Puttin' On The Ritz'(빌보드 4위) 등 클래시컬한

 명곡을 리바이벌한 곡들이 수록된 앨범이다.

'Puttin' On The Ritz'는 1927년 Irving Berlin이 작곡한 곡으로, 1930년 뮤지컬 영화 [Puttin' On the Ritz]에서

 Harry Richman에 의해 처음으로 소개되었고, 같은 해 Fred Astaire도 이 곡을 녹음하였다.
이후 많은 가수들이 커버했는데 Taco의 버젼은 신서사이즈를 더빙해서 복고풍과 함께 자기만의 사운드를 만든것이 특징이다.
