Tony Orlando & Dawn - Candida

3인조 그룹 The Dawn은 1970년 리드 보컬에 Tony Orlando, 백보컬에 Telma Hopkins,Joyce Vincent의 라인업을 

갖추고 출발하였다.
리더인 토니 올란도는 1961년에 싱글 'Halfway to Paradise'와 'Bless You' 등을 발표하며 경력을 쌓았다.
또한 그는 녹음 스튜디오 가수로, 컬럼비아 레코드 계열의 음악출판사 간부로 일하기도 했다.

이후 토니는 여성 백보컬을 영입하여 The Dawn을 실체화시켰다.
1970년 싱글 'Candida'와 'Knock Three Times'는 레코드 회사의 제의를 받아 발표한 것으로 각각 챠트 3위와 1위에 

오르는 대히트를 기록하였다.
1971년 9월 카네기 홀에서 데뷔공연을 가졌으며 이듬해에 매우 경쾌한 싱글 'Runaway','Happy Together'를 발표했다.

1973년에 발표한 싱글 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree'는 그해 최다 판매기록을 세우면서 챠트 

1위에 올랐다. 이 노래는 세계적으로 유명한 명곡중의 하나로 지금도 애청되고 있다.
그러나 그룹 The Dawn은 1977년 자체 해산되고 토니 올란도는 솔로로 활동하였다.
