60년대 가장 성공한 포크/록 듀오인 폴 사이먼(Paul Frederick Simon)과 아트 가펑클 (Art Garfunkel)의 그룹 사이먼 앤 가펑클은 골드를 기록한 히트 앨범 시리즈와 싱글 앨범으로 당대 팝 필드를 구가했다.
   
이들의 음악은 영혼을 울리는 아름다운 하모니, 어쿠스틱과 일렉트릭 기타의 조화,섬세하면서 동시에 현악 편곡의 세련된 멜로디와 영문학 교재로 사용될 정도로 예리하면서도 정제된 사이먼의 가사로 특징지을 수 있다.
   
폴 사이먼이 70년대에 솔로로 크게 성공할 때까지 많은 사람들은 싱어송라이터로서의 그의 실력을 간과했지만, 사실상 S&G 최고의 작품들은 다 그의 창작력의 산물이다.

'Scarborough Fair'는 1966년 앨범 [Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme]에 수록된 곡으로, 앨범은 빌보드 앨범챠트 4위, 영국 앨범챠트 13위에 올랐다.

2003년 Rolling Stone 誌 선정 "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" 202위에 선정되기도 했다.

앨범 타이틀은 영국 민요 'Scarborough Fair'의 두 번째 줄 가사를 그대로 인용,앨범수록곡 중, 'Homeward Bound'가 챠트 5위(영국 9위), 'The Dangling Conversation'이 챠트 25위에 올랐다.

1968년에 싱글로 발매되어 싱글챠트 11위, AC 챠트 5위에 랭크되었다.

중세기말 영국 Yorkshire로부터 전해오는 전통민요로 1965년 이들이 영국 순회공연중 영국 가수 Martin Carthy에게서 배워 편곡하여 발표한 곡이다.
